Kay: Hi from CheltenhamFound your pole review interesting. I hadn't realised QuePasa in Bristol had closed. The one in Cheltenham is still open and has a 12 foot pole. It's now run by Marstons rather than Eldridge Pope, so the atmosphere there is a bit less fraught. The othe venue in Cheltenham with a pole is Fever in Regent Street. The pole is a little short, a bit close to the wall and tends to rotate during spins, but stands over a magnificent retro colour changing illuminated dancefloor. Music on

Public Transport Special

Location: The DLR: The Docklands Light Railway, London.

Music: None - unless you have an iPod.

Clientèle: The general public - shudder.....

The Pole: It's in the middle of the entrance space of the train so a reasonable space around it. Obviously there is much more space at night than in rush hour. Robyn's tip: don't try pole dancing in rush hour! The pole is about 8 feet tall, it's coated in green plastic, and I reckon about 1.5" thick. The grip is fine for your hands, but I couldn't tell you about the legs, cos I was wearing jeans. Still managed a butterfly though!
Just be careful when pulling in and out of stations, but once the train is moving the movement doesn't impair the dancing!

Overall: Cool, but not really a legitimate location for a performance! Actually, if you've had a drink it seems like the perfect location for a performance!!! Just look at the guy on the left's face! He nearly got kicked, but he didn't care he had a front-row seat (his missus sitting down didn't seem quite so pleased!)

Location: Stansted Airport underground monorail-thingy that takes you to the departure gates.

Music: None, again. You might have to ask your mates to sing!?

Clientèle: Holiday-makers and International travellers who travel on budget airlines.

The Pole: It's brushed stainless, so not entirely grippy. It's about 1.5" thick again. It's probably just over 7 feet tall. There isn't much room on one side, probably only 1.5 feet to the train-wall. The up-side is that there are 14 poles in the carriage, 10 of which are unobstructed by seating. I had this amazing dream where I performed a PussyCat Dolls-style routine with 9 other people, we would all look as if we were off on our holiday, and didn't know each other and then launched into an amazing synchronised routine that wowed all the other passengers. OK, time to wake up!

Overall: My main gripe is that it's at an airport. You have to behave. You wouldn't want anyone thinking that you were a terrorist out to use your secret weapon of pole-tricks to take over the world!
Also - this is the kind of place where my other-half tells me to "not embarrass myself" - more like embarrass him! I did do a really nice cradle, which some of the other passengers saw and seemed interested.

There were also a couple of accessible poles on the Airport Bus in Palma. But it's pretty similar to the train one, and the bus is usually quite full, so hard to actually do anything.
In conclusion: Public Transport poles are fun, but it's usually too busy to get one to yourself. And then there's the problem of easily-embarrassable travelling companions!
